Review: Unknown
11th March From the trailer, Unknown looks like your standard thriller. It was really portrayed to look like a sequel to Taken. Luckily it ended up being something more interesting and much better than my expectations. Most people really love Liam Neeson but I’m still never sure how I feel about him. Yes, he’s been in a few great films, like Schindler’s List and Taken (not great...

Review: Memento
5th March Memento is one of my favourite films, I’ve seen it roughly 3 times and I’ve always enjoyed it. It’s one of those films that you learn more about it and catch more subtle things as you watch it more and more. The hook to Memento is that the main character has a memory problem, he has no short term memory. So every 10 minutes he completely forgets where he is, how he got...

Review: Youth in Revolt
March 5 As I’ve mentioned before, I seem to have a thing for Michael Cera romance films. Maybe it’s because I can relate to Michael Cera, as all my friends keep saying. There’s just something I enjoy about his performance, although it would be nice to see him playing some different roles in a few different films. Youth in Revolt was a nice surprise for me. I didn’t really...

Review: Drive Angry
4 March Really, every part of me should have know I wouldn’t like the film, but for some reason I was looking forward to it. The film can be summed up with three words: Metal, cars and guns. Three things I don’t particularly like. These three key elements were stuck onto a plot about a man who escaped hell and needs to save his daughter from some cult. It’s not that bad a story...

Review: Rango
March 4 I had always been really interested in Rango, since the first teaser of the wind-up fish floating across the desert. I only saw the theatrical trailer for the film the day I went to see it so I realised that I actually knew absolutely nothing about it. However, I loved the film. Rango was strange in the fact that it had a very Coen Brother’s feel to it. Just the way the characters...

Review: Paul
26th February Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are just a great duo. All their projects where they’re together are amazing. Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Spaced and now Paul. I love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost - I actually have Simon Pegg’s autograph, even though I completely froze up when I met him. Spaced is one of my top 5 television shows but I knew not to get too excited for Paul. The only...

Review: The Royal Tenenbaums
21st February Wes Anderson is one of those directors that I just find interesting. All of his films just have this mould breaking view on the world. I’ll admit that they are beginning to follow their on special Wes Anderson mould, but it’s still a wonderful combination of writing and directing. Now this is the third time that I have watched The Royal Tenenbaums. The first time, I...

Review: The Fighter
18th February The reviews for The Fighter have been really good and a few of my friends have said that they really enjoyed it. Even with this positive feedback I was still a bit wary of the film. Rightly so, as I’m not really a fan of sports and I’m definitely not a fan of boxing. I will admit that I was surprised when I liked some of the fights but overall I wasn’t impressed...

Review: Yogi Bear
18th February From what I can remember, I think I always liked Yogi Bear. He had all the classic Hannah Barbera magic that made it such a colourful and warm cartoon. The film was colourful, I’ll give it that, but it was just missing most things that make a comedy film, funny. When I first heard that they were making a live action/cgi crossover of Yogi Bear STARRING Dan Akroyd, I was baffled....

Review: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Feb 12
For some reason I really like teen romance films starring Michael Cera. Perhaps it’s because Michael Cera reflects me in some respects or I’m just a sop.
Nick and Norah’s Inifinite Playlist isn’t my favourite Michael Cera film, I’d probably rate them:
Scott Pilgrim
Youth in Revolt
Juno
Nick and Norah
Overall it wasn’t really anything special but it...

Review: The Informant!
Matt Damon always surprises me. After seeing the Bourne series of films I was always sure that he would be one of those, stuck in action film actors. (Those were the first Matt Damon films I ever saw) and I’m glad to know that he never fell into that trap. I really like all the different roles he’s in and he’s really climbing up my roster of favourite actors.
The Informant! is...

Review: Just Go With It
11 Feb Adam Sandler, I used to find pretty funny. I used to like his monotone delivery of jokes and the back and fourths between him and his co-stars. I am done with this though. Grown Ups had the same back and fourths that go on for about 5 minutes and have nothing to do with the plot and serve very very few laughs. Sadly half of Just go With It was FILLED with these back and fourths which...

Review: True Grit
11 Feb
The Coen Brothers have still yet to fail me. True Grit was another film that I was not at all disappointed with and came out really happy with it. I have not seen the 1969 True Grit in its entirety so I don’t feel that I can REALLY compare them, but I really enjoyed what I saw of the 1969 True Grit and like it as much as the Coen Brother’s.
Jeff Bridges was, just awesome as he...

Review: The Kings Speech
3 Feb
The Kings Speech was the first film that I tried Orange Wednesdays with and I’m really happy with it. The fact that I can use my Cineworld Unlimited card with it and get 2 free tickets is awesome. If you like cinema, an Unlimited Card is a good investment. If you’re a student you’d need to see 3 films /mo to make it worth your while, but that’s not really hard.

Review: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
30 Jan
I’ve been a Star Trek fan for years now. I was introduced to it quite young every dinner time. I think my first Captain was John Luc Picard, and The Next Generation is still one of my favourite TV series to this date. The most common battle between Star Trek fans, apart from if it’s better than Star Wars is whether the Original Series is better than The Next Generation....

Review: Miller's Crossing
Miller’s Crossing 29 Jan The Coen Brother’s are two of my favourite directors and writers. I’ve liked all the films of theirs that I’ve seen and have high expectations for any film of theirs. Miller’s Crossing followed these same rules. I knew it was a gangster film and it was by the Coen Brother’s, which was all the incentive that I needed to watch it. ...

Review: The Mechanic
28 Jan Jason Statham is really entertaining. I have a lot of fun with some of the films he’s starred in but it’s plain to see the pattern in his career. He always plays a well-dressed assassin or burglar. These films are filled with just mindless violence and a very British elegance, but they feel very formulaic now. The Mechanic is just another plain action film, not bringing much...

Review: Neds
28 Jan For some reason I was very skeptical about this film. I knew nothing about, saw no trailers, nothing at all. I don’t what made me slightly against seeing it. I’ll say now that I was wrong to have any skepticism and the film truly surpassed my expectations. Really I don’t know what I was expecting, but what was delivered was great. The story was based around a young man...

Review: Fight Club
21 Jan I know that everyone has probably seen Fight Club by now and if you haven’t, go an watch it now. I understand why it is one of the most highly regarded films and I really like everything about it. I’m assuming that you’ve seen the film so I’m not going to care about spoilers in this particular review. Brad Pitt does a brilliant performance as the imaginary...

Review: Morning Glory
Morning Glory 21 Jan Harrison Ford has been in quite a lot of films but I’ve never really seen him in that many comedies and he was actually really good in Morning Glory given that it was a film about improving a morning time TV show. Morning Glory was actually quite enjoyable. The trailers were quite fun and they reflected the film quite well. There wasn’t too much of a story but the...

Review: Black Swan
Black Swan Jan 21 First of all I should probably talk about my expectations of the film as they weighed my view quite heavily. I went in expecting the completely wrong movie, I though that Black Swan was a psychological horror/supernatural type film and realised that this was not the case. That might be why I wasn’t really a big fan of the film, or maybe I wouldn’t have enjoyed it even...

Review: Inception
15 Jan Saw Inception in the cinema last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved everything about it. The premise, the casting, the settings. Everything was just done so well. Christopher Nolan is great. I’ve loved all the films of his that I’ve seen and I would gladly watch them all over and over again. Memento and Prestige are two of my all time favourite films. He just has this...

Review: Scrooged
15 Jan I realise we’re quite past the Christmas season but I never had enough time to watch Scrooged before now. Scrooged and Muppet’s Christmas Carol were the two Christmas films that I want to see last Christmas, but I never got round to seeing Muppet’s Christmas Carol, which is a shame as I haven’t seen it in about 7 years. Scrooged, however, I have now seen. For the...

Review: The Season of the Witch
14 Jan Nicolas Cage said in an interview that he did this film in honour of Christopher Lee and Vincent Price, but it was in no way on par with those films, although I haven’t actually seen the original Horror films, although they are quite high on my to watch list. Season of the Witch was not good. The story was basically; take the witch from A to B, but be careful as she’s a witch....

Review: The Green Hornet
14 Jan There have been a lot of comic book films now. My favourites are probably Kick-Ass, The Watchmen and Christopher Nolan’s Batman films. I really like the new-found maturity of comic book films as it’s allowing some really nice super hero films to get through. Seth Rogen is really great. If he likes a project he’ll do everything he can to stick with it. The Green Hornet had...

Review: Back to the Future Part 2
13 Jan I apologise that I’m not reviewing BTTF first but I saw it last year in cinema and it was amazing, the best way to see it. Because of that fact I wasn’t really in the mood to watch it again. Although watching BTTF 2 again I think I might… BTTF: Part 2 is not as good as Back to the Future or even Part 3, in my opinion. Yes, I really enjyed myself and it has a few of the...

Review: 127 Hours
7 Jan Every week on a Friday my friends and I do, what we call: Double Feature Friday. Basically we watch two films back to back every Friday evening. This evening we only watched one: 127 Hours. 127 Hours was pretty much everything I expected. I’d already heard the story that the film was based on so was slightly prepared for what happened in the film. The particular scene I was worried...

Review: Jay and Silent Bob Strikback
7 Jan Kevin Smith is probably my favourite director, I love all the films I’ve seen and love most things that he’s been involved in (Smodcast). There’s just a simplicity to his films that you don’t get in Blockbuster Comedies. He doesn’t follow the norms but he still keeps his films hilarious. Jay and Silent Bob Strikeback was just as good as any of his other films. I...

Review: 500 Days of Summer
6 Jan I have a huge crush and Zooey Deschannel. I have no idea why but she’s one of those actors/actresses who I will watch in whatever they make. I watched the Happening (although I watched that for M. Night Shyamalan, I liked it for it that fact) So going by that accept that I might be biased, but I don’t think I am. I’ve not seen that many romance films, but I had a great time...

Review Spartacus
Spartacus 6 Jan To be fair, I’ve watched it in three parts. I watched it one hour each time. I kept getting kicked out of the room, but I have eventually and finally watched all of it. I really enjoyed it, it met all of my expectations. I’d heard a lot about it but it didn’t over hype it. Everything about it was enjoyable. I’m a big fan of the few Kubrick films that...

Part Review: Thick as Thieves
Thick as thieves 4 Jan I did not watch all of it, but I’ll talk about the one half that I saw, the last half. I know that’s not very fair to judge a movie on but I thought that I might as well. Thick as Thieves as pretty much just another Bank Heist Thriller. There are hundreds out there and Morgan Freeman has been in half of them. Don’t get me wrong, I love Morgan Freeman and I...

Review: Groundhog Day
3 Jan Groundhog Day is a film that I’ve seen quite a few times but I don’t think I could ever tire of it. It’s just so funy and brilliant. The whole concept of re-living the one day is beautiful and incredibly as interesting, as it poses the question as to what you, yourself would do in Phil’s (Bill Murray) situation. There isn’t anything that I don’t like about...

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
3 Jan I will admit that I’ve never seen the original Hammer Frankenstein, but I really do intend to at some point. Neither have I read the book by Mary Shelley which, again is high up on my To-Do list. Of course I do know a lot about Frankenstein and his monster as it has been parodied and spoken about by so many people in so many different films and programs, that almost everyone knows the...

Review A Day: Norbit
In the same vein as last year I’m going to try to do something productive, this year I thought that I would try to write movie reviews for EVERY film that I watch, which should be interesting as I’ve always liked writing reviews even though I’m not particularly good at it or even at all, I just enjoy putting my thoughts online.
Well that’s the idea so here’s the...

Throwing in the Towel
That’s it. I’ve missed three Photos of the Day in a row, I’m done.
I know I’m only 2 months away from finishing but I’ve just not been as enthused with it lately with Uni. It’s been a really interesting experience and it’s made me think out of the box (most) days.
I think that if I hadn’t let the editing slip I would have kept up with it but I...
