For some reason I was very skeptical about this film. I knew nothing about, saw no trailers, nothing at all. I don’t what made me slightly against seeing it. I’ll say now that I was wrong to have any skepticism and the film truly surpassed my expectations.

Really I don’t know what I was expecting, but what was delivered was great. The story was based around a young man called John. You go through his life and how he became a juvenile delinquent. The film was truly gripping for the most part. I was worried about what John intended to do and the consequences of his actions. It’s not very often I get emotionally tied in films.

The depiction of the negative sides of teenage culture in Scotland were delivered brilliantly and made me fearful about the streets, even though I knew the film was fictitious none of the events that transpired in the film went through my mind as not being possible, if they had not already happened at least once. The scenes depicting the violence and the almost gang like mentality of the groups of Neds in the film were done well. They were horrifying and truly did bring fear to me, which is something no Hollywood action film could do. Perhaps it’s because I live in Scotland or perhaps it’s just simply the culture that allowed me to really relate to the film even though I have never experienced any of the events first hand.

My Internet is down so I’m not able to do any research on the film, which I’d like to do to talk about the film a little more. Guess I’ll just stick to my opinions.

I truly enjoyed this film even though parts could maybe have been a little too long. Even that does not harm the film too much. It was a very clear film with a clear message and I truly enjoyed the film as a whole.

    Neds: 4.5/5
