Review: The Kings Speech
3 Feb
The Kings Speech was the first film that I tried Orange Wednesdays with and I’m really happy with it. The fact that I can use my Cineworld Unlimited card with it and get 2 free tickets is awesome. If you like cinema, an Unlimited Card is a good investment. If you’re a student you’d need to see 3 films /mo to make it worth your while, but that’s not really hard.
Anyway, The Kings Speech. I’d heard all of the buzz about the film and Colin Firth’s Oscar Nomination and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I’ve always felt neutral towards Colin Firth but he hit it right out of the park in The Kings Speech. He did a terrific work. I’d be more than happy if he won the Best Actor award at the Oscars, as he clearly deserves it.
Part of me was expecting an unexciting drama/documentary although all of my friends really liked it. And I’m glad to say that it wasn’t boring at all. There were quite a few pretty funny sequences and the speech therapist was another great character amongst a wealth of other rich and interesting characters. I didn’t know about most of the story of King George the 6th and it was really quite interesting and informative.
The Kings Speech is another of those films that I find hard to describe but I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. It deserves all the praise that it’s been getting
The King’s Speech 5/5
Side-note: Had one of those people with very distinctive laughs that laugh at ANY and EVERY joke said in the film. It’s a little off-putting but not as off-putting as his friend, who was sitting next to me. This man took his phone out TWICE during the film to write a text. Phones should not be taken out of pockets during films it’s just rude to take it as it’s the brightest thing in the room and takes the viewer out of the film. Sorry, just thought I’d have a little rant, even though I leave my phone on vibrate during films - but I would never think of taking it out of my pocket.
