  1. Review: The Informant!

Matt Damon always surprises me. After seeing the Bourne series of films I was always sure that he would be one of those, stuck in action film actors. (Those were the first Matt Damon films I ever saw) and I’m glad to know that he never fell into that trap. I really like all the different roles he’s in and he’s really climbing up my roster of favourite actors.

The Informant! is one of those films that I liked the look of and the name of the star on the box caught my eye. So I went in without a clue about the film and came out really pleased with the whole film.

Premise wise, it’s quite interesting as it’s not your average corporate espionage with threats and sexy cuts all filmed in a grungy and depressign way. The Informant! is really high spirited and quite cheerful which wasn’t what I was really expecting. Even the soundtrack is chipper and really upbeat.

My favourite thing about the whole thing is Mark’s (Matt Damon) inner monologues that have nothing to do with anything. He’ll be in a meeting and just remind himself about Polar Bear’s covering thier noses so that they can’t be seen and then ponders how they figured out that their noses are, in fact, black. I think that’s my favourite aspect of the whole film but everything else is really entertaining and interesting.

Matt Damon does a really great job and was very interesting as Mark. Mark is a really interesting character who I felt very fond of and liked a lot. I don’t want to go into the plot too much but Mark has loads of secrets and they all end up spilling out and it’s ridiculous how many he has.

Really surprised by the whole film and I’d really recommend that you give it a watch especially if you like quirky, interesting films that break the mould.

    The Informant! 4/5
